if the TD5 is so good, why can my 200TDi pull a trailer with a ton of corn in it up a steep hill in high 2nd, but my mate has to go to low box in his TD5 with the same trailer / load behind?
also, why has he had to replace his engine after only 40k (under warranty) while mine's still going strong on 85k?
I have a 200tdi which I have owned for 12 years, it has done 126000 miles and never once failed me. It behaves and sounds like a tractor. It has pulled a 23cwt caravan for most of it's summer life and I am extremely pleased with it. I have now bought myself a series 2 TD5 and to be honest, my particular car knocks the stuffing out of the 200tdi in every respect. Even on paper the engine's spec in terms of power is bigger in BHP and torque. So I don't know what is wrong with your friends TD5, but it's not the norm I can assure you. One of MY friends has had his TD5 re programmed (chipped) and has made a fantastic difference to the pulling power. He went up to Scotland to pick a DEFENDER up on a trailer, he said it handled and pulled like a dream. I have heard that this mod can boost the BHP to 180, without much of a hit on fuel consumption. Trouble is, it costs about £400 to do. Takes about 15minutes. What a rip off. I want to programme my own, with my laptop. (wishful thinking)
