I'm looking around at guides and prices, and as far as I can tell you have to do most of the same work just to replace the boot as to replace the whole joint?
I don't really have the gear to be confident of doing it myself, so just want want get the parts so I'm not paying some of the prices the garage get from the local places.
Given I don't know the state of the joints (havebt been changed in the 3 years I've had her), and if it's basically the same work anyway, I'm figuring I may as well do the whole joint?

It’s a good move, if the boot has been damaged and lubricant lost then the chance of premature wear
Is high so I would’ve have done the same,

Mine are totally fine with it. Of course if the part is bad then that's on me, and I get that ‍♂️

Legislation changed not so long back, and even if you supply the part (new or 2nd hand) if it fails then legally they are responsible for replacement costs, hence most wont go near customer supplied parts.
