My winter kit is........

Thats a grand list Bix....whilst not as remote as you here by what would seem a long way, there are a couple of great items I should add - 6/12hr Sticks....never thought of those!!

The light sticks are a good idea.
If you want a strong folding shovel get a military one. I bought an ex Dutch army shovel that also acts as a pick. Dirt cheap.
You might think about getting hot cans - tin of stew or something that automatically heats up when you pull the actuator.
I also carry car emergency stuff. EAS cable, small notebook, air compressor + EAS spares. Box is now too valuable to take!

Well done Bix, your a professional. Have learn't a lot from that. One thing I always take all year round is a Sealey power pack, it can (acording to the instructions) start a car with a flat battery 30 times! I don't think its up to that but mighty close. With a p38 it a godsend.

Modern Cree Led torches are useful too, incredible range, long battery life and will also flash SOS automatically for about 20 hours.

Will it start a diesel?

Yes, have done many times. Connect the power pack and leave it for five minutes before starting is best. My 4.6 goes straight away but, when I can, I leave it connected for a minute or two to help the alternator. It has never failed to start my car. You know what Range Rovers are like: example very early 5am start loading the car for a weekend away with all the doors open for fifteen minutes, jump in and try to start - click, click, click but have trusty Sealey and a minute later on the way!

The one I have is: RoadStart 12v 1600 Peak Amps - there are several different models and shop around for price as some places charge (no pun) a lot.
