"Ting" an idea.....
If you have back plates on your hubs check there isn't a stone wedged between that and disc - I had that one and a real horrible sound  and stopped for a while if you went backwards a bit then it came back going forward. Found it a dug it our with screwdriver - no back plates now! :p
I know it's simple but is it worth looking? :)

UJ's usually chirp like a bird, if really bad squeal, I've never heard one grind before!

My first guess for grinding would be one of the hubs, mud shield, brakes, something like that.

Is there any smell to go with the noise? What state are your brakes in? Could one be binding?
Haven’t taken note of any smells but occasionally I have smelt a slight burning smell but figured it was from the wood fires in peoples homes now that it’s gotten colder. It could definitely be that - I’ll have a look - thank you.

UPDATE:
Apparently it had something to do with calipers, pads repair and a turret-fit shock N/S/F ???? That's what is says on the invoice...

I cant see how a near side front shock would make any of the noises you described. Did they check over the whole vehicle for other problems?

Brakes pads and calipers could have been causing the noises so that sounds reasonable..

Apparently they did... they even disconnected the drive shaft, prop 'etc'..... cost me a fortune!!! but sound is gone now (although there was a loud once off knock sound this am but hoping that was just a big stone or something!!!)

It's back!!!! I'm noticing its when I'm turning slight or fully right now though and it seems to go away once the oil /engine is warmed up?

I agree - no idea how it could be anything to do with the front side shock. I think they've ripped me off...

'orrible noises when cornering generally point at CV joints, but as with everything its no where near definitive. because that would be too easy.

On a different tact, have you checked your steering fluid level recently? Any leaks on the steering box?

I’ll have a look. Busy uploading a video to YouTube with the sound I recorded earlier. Hopefully that will help - I certainly have no idea!!!

Go back to garage speak to mechanic and get him to sort problem you paid him to do...
I am, it’s booked in again this week but I’m just worried they don’t know what they’re doing (not that I either though!!) so any advice that would help them find and finally fix the fault always helps. They charged me a lot of money taking things apart and then replacing parts which I’m not sure was the problem (as it’s back again)

Feel for you mate...you've paid money for it to be sorted... get him in vehicle and drive it yourself so you can show problem...then take it from there...don't give up...come back here with diagnosis and someone with more knowledge than me will help...
