it's a 2.5 n/a out of a sherpa van

I don't think it is ....

The 15J Sherpa engine doesn't have an alloy cam belt cover, and it does have a different water pump. If we had a pic looking down at the front of the engine we could be sure.

I reckon his engine is a N/A 2.5 The inlet manifold looks Sherpa-ish though....

Maybe it is a Bitsa?

the sherpa engine should have what's basically just a tin plate covering the front of the timing case. but as you say, you can't really see in the pics cos the battery is in the way.

and the timing case itself is a different shape, meaning the injection pump is mounted higher up, which in turn means you don't have to alter the chassis engine mounts to fit it.

if it's a 2.5 n/a out of a defender, then the injection pump will be lower down and the drivers side engine mount will have to have been cut off the chassis and replaced.

thats what a 2.5n/a looks like when its sat on a crawler trolley

neither of them have the oil filler tube on the o/s of the engine like in furst piccies.

Hmmm...... is that so ?
What about military ones then ?
Loads of them filled the oil into a tube, and NOT into the rocker cover.
My lightweight engine is like that, though it ALSO has an oil filler cap on the civvy alloy rocker cover presently fitted..
