I've just been offered a 95 110 300tdi csw. 108k's still MoT'd

I've taken it for a drive and it drives and handles well - engine seems sound but could do with a bit of TLC.

Bad points - been used for towing boats for last couple of years and has sat near the harbour when not in use so....
Wheels rusted (cosmetic)
All hinges and bolts rusted
rear crossmember needs replacing
sills tatty
bulkhead holed opposite instrument panel
general tatty condition
brakes shot - warning light permanently on#
headlights knacked
outriggers serviceable but needing attention
steel work on bonnet shot

good points.....errrrr........
Engine sound
new gearbox
chassis although tatty is ok but woul benefit from waxoyl
most metallic panels in ok condition

for the price am I buying trouble.....or could this be the rare hens tooth project motor for a steal? I
Your honest opinions would be appreciated!

Taking into account the issues you have identified already identified or suspect require attention, and the fact it's spent it's life by the seaside...........£1500 tops, which will leave you with enough cash for a good quality grinder and disc's..........cos you will not be able to unbolt anything.
Do not jump at the first one that come's along.:)

aye so yer saying it dunt got no problems with rust then?

Oh it's got rust no problem there.

Chances are the chassis is shot you just haven't realised it yet. If it's been used for launching/ recovering boats, you can guarantee it's had it's arse dipped in all that lovely salty water on several occasions and that salt water has run down inside the chassis and sat in there slowly eating the chassis away from the inside.

£800 is the asking price!

I hear what you're all saying and I expect it's got all or most of the problems you're on about.

Wonder if she's worth buying to cannabize .........and if my Lightweight would top 4O mph with a 300tdi under the bonnet??

Fer £800 tear his arm off a good defender tdi engine & gear box can go fer over a £1k. then there's the axles, interior etc etc.

Strip it down then pressure wash the chassis if it's got weak spots the pressure washer will find em.

Absokinlootly £800 is an absolute bargain. Even if you buy then strip and sell as spares you'd make a killing.

Actually on 2nd thoughts thats not a good price give me his address and phone number and I'll have a chat with him see if i can talk the price down for you.

Yeah badadj....my mind's kind of thinking that already...

Don't know how chuffed her indoors is going to be with another stripped down landy in the drive though.

I think I'll be cheeky and haggle!

(got to keep the tight Scot sterotype up!)

Well that's the last time I offer to help out a fellow offroader. I don't know you just can't help some people can you.

S'what drives are for intit. Wish I had a drive wouldn't be able to see the ground for landy bits.

Yeah that whats drives R for. But her wee clio, my lightweight, a knacked cavalier, a box trailer, boat trailer and three boats in various states of disrepair I might need to butter her up...

Still ....less time to cut the grass - which has to be a positive!

Keep one boat, stick it on the boat trailer, then sell everything else not landy related, with maybe an exception for the 'shopping trolley' bobs your uncle ,space aplenty. Landy heaven.

Did you say you've got grass aswell , stick everything on the grass ,no need to cut it at all then.
