its worth giving back to its proper owner while a nice kicking is given to the attempted tax dodger ;)

unforunately it will most likely sell onto someone else passing the book and as usual the police wont do a thing cause it would mean a fair bit of paperwork :(

if the "alleged rightful" owner can't get it registered as he can't prove where the parts came from for the IVA, how exactly will you be able to do this ?

call me cynical but if it was cosher you would have thought to keep the receipt for the replacement chassis.

maybe with a little detective work (you know what the polis are "allegedly" paid to do ;) ) they could check the database for low mileage 2002 stolen BLUE defender td5s and work from there. maybe even look for an identifying number on the vehicle (vin, engine) which will more than likely have been removed if stolen so they should impound the fooker anyway.

seeing as the guy has been trying to ring the thing by putting it onto a bought identity with tax exemption it appears extremely dodgy and should be impounded pending further investigation before somebody finds themself out of pocket to the tune of a couple of grand.

there is no doubt in my mine is stolen. vosa should have checked the axle ,transfer box , gear box numbers. an year of chassis behind the n/s an o/s front wheele al have anyone a £10 in fact make it £100 on it that thay all come back as a 2002 stolen td5 in blue ;)
