I think the reason will be down to you reseting all your engine values with the faultmate. it will run rough for around 200 miles till the setting have been learned again. this is normal. when irishrover reset mine with his faultmate it was very poor on petrol till i had over 200 miles added to the old sod. then its ok now... well as ok as a P38 can get :D

Its a fair point Doug but I reset adaptive values back in December and have done at leas 600 miles since then so should have completed the relearning process by now?
 
Got a very good chance; Jet, just like super-markets, spot-buy fuel that is very near use/sell by date, hence keeping prices lower than BP, Shell etc. Furthermore, their own refined fuel is only filtrated 2 -3 times, as opposed to Shell (5x) Bp (4x). This makes the petrol "cleaner", removing particulates that "dirty" the fuel and lessen it's efficiency.

Shop around, try different local fuel-stops, all vehicles run better/faster/more eonomical on different fuels. Personally, I run all my bikes on Tesco Momentum (higher Ron and more mpg), the Range is better on BP fuel, but lower mpg on morrisons or tesco standard unleaded!


What a load of ****e! especially the "sell by date bit" Ha ha! Should not make any difference because reqardless of which petrol brand you use the fuel will come from the same (most local) depot. This is after an agreement by the petrol retailers to share depots to cut back on transport costs. So you tesco fuel is the same as at Sainsburys , Shell. Bp etc. And before anyone says I use Shell Optimax or similar so that must come from a Shell depot, it doesnt. The "special" ingredients are added to the tanker itself after the driver has loaded the fuel.
So basically unless you buy the premium fuels the rest are the same so buy from where its cheapest!
 
low tyre preasure...brakes binding...heavy right foot...maf sensor faulty...fuel price going up...loads of crap in car...you have eaten too much over christmas...wife expecting. ????

so what your saying is the delivery driver climbs on top of his tanker with his measuring jug and adds the final chemicals dam fine clever folk these tanker drivers lol

Last month or two my mpg has dropped from about 12.8 down to average of 9.5. Quite a significant drop... Its very hilly where I live hence low mpg.

Even on motorway its dropped from 20 down to 16.

What can cause this?

In last 6 months I've had new crank sensor, plugs, leads, maf sensor...

No misfiring according to faultmate..

Where do I start looking?

You are the one who needs to do the research my friend. Ever used the internet! There is a large esso depot/refinery near me and all differently labeled tankers go in and out. And yes the "special chemicals" in "advanced" fuels are added to the tanker or sometimes even as its being delivered to the petrol station. Will find and post some links.

The fat that many different branded tankers all use the same refinery cannot be disputed.

I think you have mis-read the point made; "superior" brand names eg BP, Shell etc work differently to supermarkets and the likes of Jet, in that their fuel is better filtrated and "fresh". Cheaper fuel is available through supermarkets as they spot-buy fuel that has a lesser shelf life, and that which they do buy is filtrated twice, as opposed to 4 -5 times for Shell/BP......... I often use cheaper fuels on smaller training bikes, even on my Pan and RR, but they do run a little better in power and mpg on the mainstream brands.
 
Down at Canvey, can't remember the proper name, I have sat and watched all the different tankers come into the same fueling stations, however although the fueling station is the same, a bit like a coffee machine I don't see why the fuel output shouldn't be different. Just a matter of turning a couple of valves.
Not that I know anything about it.
 
I do know that my comments are factual.....A friend of mine has told me many a story as to what really goes on........... been a tanker driver for 20yrs ;)

Texaco, Total and Shell use HOSL West and HOSL East"

They fill from their own storage tanks you muppet!!!!:doh:

They might fill from their own tanks but the fuel is the same as the the additives are added when the fuel is put in the delivery tankers.

If you actually go to any refinery (like Fawley near wear I live, which is owned by Shell) and watch the tankers loading up, you will see they DO all load from the same bunker. It doesn't matter who the fuel is for, it actually does all comes form the same place. A Shell tanker will follow a Tescos tanker, which will follow a Morrisons tanker, etc. I know, because I've watched them on a trip round the refinery that the owners (then esso IIRC) organised as a publicity do after some negative press on the ungreeness of the site...

However, the actual differences come AFTER each tanker has been loaded. Every fuel company has their own blend of additives, which is added to the tanker after loading the fuel.

It's those additives that make the difference - NOT the fuel itself.

EDIT - The additives are added at the refinery, after the tankers have loaded with fuel. Each company (Shell, Tesco or whoever) has their own blend of detergents, boosters, etc. It's solely that combination that changes the characteristics of the fuel you buy, depending on where you buy it.

I give up anyway now. Lots of folks on here are so set in there views that the possibility of being WRONG never enters their closed minds. Have a nice day.:)
 
Checked tyres - they were ok.

Tried Shell Petrol rather than Jet - mpg gone up a bit to 10.4 ave from 9, but still can't get near what it was - about 14.
This is on like for like driving..

Must be something not right?
