It should improve with use, hence recommending to drive it round for a bit.

Every single time I’ve bled a clutch I’ve managed to get a pedal that works (albeit at the very end of its travel) which then improves by itself over a day or two as the remaining air works its way out.

I wouldn’t worry about the length of the push rod until you’ve ruled out the above. It only just sticks out on the LT77 setup so it may well be normal.

Aye, that is a bit odd. Seems strange that somebody has changed the push rod?
I would have thought, if it was the clutch fork punching through, it would have just gone. That's what happened to mine years ago. Pedal went to the floor and that was it.

usually do but ive seen them only part,or issue a the other end of arm
 
Ive got the service record and the whole lot was replaced 14,000 miles ago and its had mostly light road use since then (10k with me). (Arm and clutch etc including push rod).

Im working currently on the assumption that their is a) some air still in the system and leaving it to settle overnight before one last bleed and a drive round

b) the replacement rod was too short.

Some poeople say the rod only just protrudes from the casing and others seem to think it should protrude quite far? Has anyone any fixed idea how far? and how long the rod should be so i can simply measure it tomorrow? If it is too short then thats a simple answer! even by a couple of mm that would ruin everything with the fulcrum effect it has to work on.

It could even be its worn flat a small bit and combine that wqith a dent to the arm and thats that!

I've got a 300tdi and so a different set up. IIRC, I think my push rod sticks out about 1cm. Can't be sure though.
I doubt your clutch fork has worn through in 14k. Also, your clutch wouldn't have worn out in 14K. Do you know if it was a decent garage, a bit Mickey Mouse or the full Walt Disney production :eek:
 
I dont know, the garage was broadlands 4 x 4 near southhampton but thas 400 miles away from me In yorkshire!
The previous owner seems to have used them alot over the 20 years he had the vehicle and otherwise seems to have kept it in good nick tbh. The price paid was about £120 for the whole lot so seems about right to me based on my local suppliers prices.

£120 to replace a clutch! :eek:
 
yes that was parts price, labour was sometrhing like 1.3k including a bit of welding but was just on invoice as weld and clutch fit!

Reviews look good.
See if you can get the air out. Then, if it is the rod, it's an easy swap. Don't know why they changed the rod, but they could have accidentally used the wrong one?
 
The rod wouldn't just mysteriously get shorter overnight (or while driving it). If it had been like that for 14k you would have noticed it from day 1. I suspect there is something else causing it to look like its too short in the bell housing
