ref the windows, when i turn my ignition off the red light stays on the centre console by my auto box lever for around 10 seconds and allows me to close any windows etc

mines a 2002 so is this an update done when they updated the models

sorry asking a daft question

Yep... early model windows only operate with ignition key at position 2 - don't know what year they updated it though.

nice on some cars when u press the remote to lock the car and windows etc automatically close

only seen that on some expensive audi or bmws

My old man's Vauxhall Carlton did that years ago.

LR deisgners obviously thought they would go better than that and allow the back window to be opened from the remote - which nobody uses and at the expense of thinking about useful things - like closing windows once the engine's stopped!

I use that function everytime i got some grocery bags to load. Very useful indeed.

I got the facelift door cards/window lift panels in my 99 L series and i wired them to permanent +12V just for the reason that i always forget to close the windows before turning the ignition off.

I also use the back window, (but it is a bit high now, due to the lift kit & tyres) when I reverse into a parking space.

I suppose that as the ECU only moves the windows when the up/down buttons are pressed - there's not much point going through it!

I don't think I'll start ripping the dash and door cards out at the moment. I've just got myself an ODB reader - so I might see if its possible to have a button on my touch screen to tell the ECU to close the windows after the ignition's been turned off.

You can use a trigger when the ignition is beeing turned off or even better when the alarm/ultrasonic sensor are on to lock the windows. Lets say the trigger power the "up buttons" for about 10 seconds everytime you lock the car.

Its a easy circuit to make using a 555 timer IC or a PIC/Arduino microcontroller.

I really like the sound of this and i can make a batch of 10 or so if anyone else are interested. Wont be expencive and maybe around 25£ inc, shipping from Norway.

Im in the progress of making this circuit, but i was only thinking about using it for my power fold mirrors as the way them work via the door lock signal arent satisfying.

I used to do that just because I could, and only when people were looking :D
