Hi guys I've been looking at this 1998 td5 2.5 110 with 150000 miles on it and I was wondering if that's the original engine because i think it has the tdi clocks and warning lights. Thanks

Im not sure with td5 90 but think its all the same but has digi mileage readout as opposed to numbers that clunk around.
I think disco 2 came out in 98 so guess same with the defenders

You should be able to tell by the gauges. I also think that the rear crossmember is different.

I have a tdi from autumn 1998, must be one of the very last.

theoretically yes, but things may have overlapped for a few months whilst they used stocks up, it ha every other time they have changed the engine/model
Gauges and rear Xmember should be different, fuel filler should also be at the rear and not just by the door.
door hinges are slightly different (TD5s have a plastic bushing to stop the rust stains)
indicator repeaters on TD5 slightly longer, the 300 has almost square ones.
TD5 has the little louvres in the headlamp surrounds.

Great thanks for the replies it did have the electric mile counter I will look more in detail next time I go to look as they are putting some bits on it. The chassis looked in nice shape it had 150000 miles on it would you think that's ok I know I've them with more but just wondering when they start need lots of work.thanks again

How long is a piece of string.

There's far too many variables on that one to give an answer, I've seen 200tdis with no patches and original Xmember, and I’ve seen later TD5s with new Xmembers and chassis patches, even tdcis with noticeable rust on the chassis.

Fair enough hah what about a drip from transmission redish color oil how bad could that be new seals or gearbox ? Thanks again sorry if these are dumb questions but don't know where else I would go specially as you guys know what your talking about

its a land rover they leak its good for em it keeps the rust away

Everything can be fixed quite cheaply really they are quite reliable too
if you abuse it be prepared to get your spanners out they are dead easy to work on compared to any other car

Ok thanks again I know they like to leak hah but just wanted to make sure its nothing to be worried about il let you update you next time I go to see it. Having a bit of a problem with insurance because of my age and the hardtop being regarded as a commercial vehicle it's frustrating most places just won't insure me at all I'm waiting on one company to get back.i may have to lean away from the hard tops do they consider crew cabs as commercial or are they passenger?
