By comparison to D1, Discovery 2 is a paragon of virtue when it comes to rust.
Yes, owners have had some rust above the windscreen - caused by stones and could/should have been treated. The chassis can show some rust also. But nothing compared to the littany of bodywork repairs required on a D1.
Boot floors; how many boot floors have you heard of being replaced on a D2? Ditto rear wheel arches, inner and outer wings, rear crossmembers and body supports, inner front wings, A & B pillar bottoms.
Come on guys get real - TDi300's are great but rusty, end of.[/quote Maybe its warmer and drier in central France, here in the cold, damp and oft well salted west country they are working their way back to earth at an amazing rate. The 99my one I have on the ramp at the moment is going to need a chassis soon along with all the steel coolant pipes,ACE pipes and brake pipes.I dare not look under the carpets anywhere,I've seen enough already.
I saw a TD5 disco chassis a little while ago that would have collapsed in half had the car not been scrapped, then another 99my car that went in for scrappage as the chassis had a 20x2" hole in it.
The first front to rear brake pipes I did on a D2 were on a 3 yr old car...
Granted in some places the D2 is less prone to rust, but when it gets into them they are not so DIY repairable as the D1.But we need not worry as the D3's seem to be rusting quicker than the other two put together.
