Which part of the photo are we looking at for the “what should be there? Everything I can see just looks like the mounting and support for the second row seats?

Am I missing something else? That is where the second row seat sits. That’s what the little flat section is for. And it hinges forwards on some brackets mounted to the front of the seat box. And you should have a little latch on the door side of it that then locks the seat in place.

Thats it then - having not seen it before I didn't know - and the other two rear seats have different fittings.

Ah ok. Makes more sense. I thought it was a trick question! What you have is the mountings for the early three individual seats, but I believe the later seats and/or the split 2-1 seats have a different mounting and securing hardware. I am just learning about this currently as I rebuild my station wagon body for conversion.
