P38 4.6 Vogue 2001/2

Currently running on Avon Ranger Sport M&S (255/55/18 109V) but they trameline all the time, even when using recommended psi.

Need to replace 2 now but Think I will change all of them to another make
So what do you think is best and what rating do you really need H or V???

Had Pirelli Scorpions on my last P38 but don't think you can get them new anymore, what the alternative?

I have Nexan Roadians on 18" rims on one car and General Grabbers AW on 16" Rims on the other. Both run vet well. GG's were nicer in the snow.

General Grabber A/T's all round on 16" rims.
Ride nice, no noise, no tramlining, and as jt armstrong said nice in the snow.

Goodyear wrangler hp m/s 255/60/r18 h110 very quit - no tram lining - excellent in snow

Wot he said plus they seem to be lasting well:D You do need to have the correct load and speed rating, here in France, if it is wrong, it's an MOT fail and it may invalidate your insurance:eek:

So general consenus is the Generals, I'll have a look at them, but are they quiet or do you get a lot of rumble?

Nexan's....... not really looked at them thought they were cheap budget and bad in the wet, are they similar to Fullrun, Hankook etc

Had Hankook on my Hyundai Galloper, thought they were pretty good but not cheap here in France:(

Data, How come you run on 255 60 18
my car tyres are only 55's, won't that effect speedo or anything or is the 60's what manufacturer state??

It's said that GG's are really quiet for a 4x4 tyre that works well off road. My p38 uses really cheap "suntek" (honestly) m&s. They perform well on the road, they've a road bias, and ok in the pathetic snow we've had this winter. I'm not expecting much at £90 a corner fitted! P38's are really sensitive to tyre size and wear, 18" wheels mean awful tramlining once the tyres are more than half worn. 16" are much better, but don't look good. I've heard enough to put me off going any bigger than 18" Hope this is some help. 255/55r18 109H is the standard size and speed rating according to my handbook!

Another vote for General Grabbers here. I've had AT2s on mine for the past couple of years and they've been great both on and off road - no noise that I've noticed.

Apparently the new ones are even better. I'll find out soon as I need to replace a couple now (damage rather than wear).

That's on 18 inch rims, by the way.

I currently have Cooper Discoverer M&S Sport on 235/70R16 which are fantastic in the snow - last month when we had fresh snow, I only saw myself and the local electricity guy make it up the hill in our village.

I have some summer wheels which have Dunlop Grandtrek ST8000 on 255/50R20 which are great until you're down to the last 4mm or so of tread, then they tramline like a bitch. I'm considering just going back to 18's for the summer wheels this year though.
