Hello all
I am looking at buying a defender 90.
It has had a 2"terra firma lift and appears to be a good example.
What I need to know is how big and wide can I go with some new tyres, also what steel rims to get.
I havent had much joy trawling the internet so thought I'd ask some experts on here.
The best I found was the max I could go was 31's but I was hoping for 33's or larger hopefully 13.50 wide.
I did'nt want to fettle around with arches, bodywork or bumpers either, just wanted something that goes straight in with the 2" lift already done.
So can I go 33 and 13.50 wide or more also do the steels need to be offset or spacers needed.
Hope all this makes sense, cheers guys

Thank you for your reply.
New to the site so still trying to navigate all it's options.
In regards to the tyre size that you stated, do you know what that equates to in the old school size, ie 31's, 10.50 ?

Thank you for the conversion chart.
After reading a lot of the discussions on here regarding this, the opinions appear to be mixed.
Some people say you can put 33's and 35's on without a lift.
The one I'm looking at has a 2" lift.
Can i put 33's or 35's on, which are 12.50 or 13.50 and do I need offset rims. If I do need particular rims could anyone tell me what to look or ask for?

I have just fitted the Fedima Scirocco 35/10.50/16 onto my Defender 300, these measure 36.3 inches tall. I had +1 inch springs on the rear and they would have fouled the wheel arches whilst off roading. So I put a 2 inch lift and trimmed the ends of the wheel arches in case they catch whilst off roading. These tires are on 7 inch rims with neg 8 offset, they are OK but rub the arms. If I had the spare dosh I would go for the 8 inch neg 32 off set and extended wheel arches.

I would assume I will need new rims or at least different to the ones that are on the vehicle. So it would be good to know which rims to get

Trouble is some manufacturers don't adhere to strict guidelines about 'sizes' .. For example, Fedima 35's are probably an inch or more larger diameter, whereas Silverstones, same tread style, are probably an inch or so smaller diameter.

Best way is to see some tyres actually fitted, ask what was needed to fit 'em, what offset and depth of rims and try to work out what you can do on your vehicle.

Have fun ...

Cheers for the reply Paul, yes I know where your coming from regarding manufacturer parameters. I don't know many people with defenders at the mo, so thought I'd ask you guy's on here.

I've got 315's on my 90 but its lifted 2" and has spacers.
Put your approx location in your profile and you might get more help from "local" owners
