Front passenger tyre is wearing like this on the outer edge. I'm aware its probably suspension related, but I'd like some pointers what to go looking at, probably in some detail, so I can hopefully have the parts when I take it to the garage. They'll be doing enough diagnosis work to find my oil leak haha.

Also, do I stand much chance of finding a possible exhaust leak myself? Often when stopping/starting at a junction with the windows open I get a distinct whiff of fumes.
 
Definitely get the tracking checked 1st. Regards the exhaust, cover the tail pipe with your hand with engine running this will expose where the leak is. You may need assistance to check.
 
What is your exhaust manifold looking like? Not warped? No missing studs/nuts?
Also get under the vehicle and wet your hand then run it along the exhaust pipe and round the silencers, not touching it but as close as you dare, maybe getting someone else to rev it up a bit, you may well feel what you cannot see.
But tbh an exhaust leak usually has carbon around it, rather than or as well as the usual rust. Look especially at where the pipe joins the silencer(s).
If it makes you laugh, my back box near as dammit simply started banging and then fell off going up a steep twisty mountain road!

The manifold and head were both skimmed and fettled a few months back, replacing one stud that repeatedly failed with a much larger one; that's going nowhere haha.

The carbonisation is a good tip; combined with the hand over the exhaust from above, hopefully I can find it. Can I get some tape to cover it, or does it need welding/replacing?

Months ago the final hook that hangs the exhaust from the body rusted through on a speed bump, and the whole thing was banging around. Come to think of it it's still held up by a braid of copper wire I had around...

It's a bodge but you can get exhaust tape that if it sets properly is evn supposed to be able to pass an MOT though I have never pushed it that far. I'd rather take it off and weld it up. But exhausts aren't that expensive although I try to replace with stainless, although they too have their own disadvantages.
But even if you get a new one you'll need to replace the hanger.
 
Yep, it was the tracking. Or I should say *is* the tracking since the adjusters are completely seized they couldn't actually move them. Nice job for next week to fit some new ones and take her back again.
Being seized is not the end of the world. Just take the whole thing off, stick it in the vice and spend some time spraying it with deseize stuff and working the offending items back and forth. I had to do that in the past. In fact when taking a vehicle in for tracking I always check it cos the last thing I want to do is to be told it's OK when they actually haven't been able to shift it.
Not that my lot would do this to me as they know me too well.
