Why do people call gaylanders "beasts" and what not. Its a shopping trolley hairdressers go kart with a Lr badge on it. Dont think you have a decent offroader because you don't. It's like to designer hand bags down market!! May look the part but they just ain't the real deal!
Standard? And I'd like to see the freelander go up a hill a disco can't. That's with 2 competent drivers of course! And never said freelanders can't go offroad but if its too much for a discovery then chances are its too much for any offroad vehicle. Theres no way a freelander can go where a disco can't same way as there is no way a disco can go where a defender cannot.

Its called forum banter and badge rivalry j really like the softroader for what it is. Just having a joke with friendly forum members who know me. My mum wants a new car and I'm still insisting the freelander is the only sensible choice for her needs.
Yer want it yerself really.

To be fair, Hippo et al have been giving the tratterers hell lately :D.
I has been doing me bit fer public relations between us and the great unwashed. :D

Anyone wishing to help should look over ere: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/i-would-just-like-say-225175.html

Tbh most of the repair threads are failed freelanders
You should take a look in the other forums. They all break down and have common faults of their own. Freelander is no worse than any other vehicle on ere.

Again never said they can't go offroad but they damn sure are not BETTER offroad over a defender discovery.

And anyway they can't be that good I mean land rover are dropping the name!
If we wanted the ultimate oft roader we'd buy mountain goats. Failing that a unimog. We don't know for sure the name will change. :p

Hmmm I don't know but I'd be interested to see how a stock defender with no TC and no locking front and rear diffs faired against a Hippo going up steep snowy hills. Lets assume same driver and same tread pattern.

When I was out on the snowy lanes last winter there was a Wolf behind me and he was having a hell of a time getting his powere down. Granted maybe it wasn't being operated properly, but between TC and HDC mine didn't skip a beat.

Alot of people grossly misunderstand what locking the diff means, which is why they get confused when they gets cross axled and my hippo sails peacefully around them.

But in terms of clearance and sheer durability the tratters have it licked good and proper. No denying that.

They're dropping the defender:D

Yer lest we forget!!

Too right mates td4 was a good little run around. His was mapped boost increase and upgraded intercooler. Went like a scolded cat. There no worse and no better than any other car anywhere. But to claim they are better than a car which was designed to do a job is a joke.

We likes are hippo's we does. They may have the occasional problem but nothing we can't sort out. Peeps pick on us as it's an easy thing to do. but often forget their own choice of vehicle has problems too.

I loves ma hippo I does. He makes me happy. Been driving it for 8 years. Many happy motoring miles covered with some great days out oft roading. I didn’t choose it. Mine was inherited. Ever since that fateful day I int stopped forking out for repairs. It’s comfortable on long journeys and doesn’t give the same tiredness of travel I get from hire cars at work. Never had an auto before myself. Driven them at work and liked them. The Jatco seems to be set-up just right to vary the balance of power against cruising. When I parks up at my destination I can’t wait to get back in and continue driving. Air conditioning, a heater that works and comfort. I loves ma little pocket range rover I does. He makes me happy.

Passengers often comment how comfortable it is to ride in. Bit more roll on corners than the average car but this can be tamed a bit with careful driving. Mines the v6 so power int a problem. Put yer foot down and it drops gears un revs to 6000. More stress equals more repairs. I prefer to drive it gently rather than thrashing it. Fool economy is poor. But yer can’t really expect anything less from a furra bred.

After a period of good service from my local main dealer I started having problems with them. Bills getting higher. Work carried out not fixing the problem and a massive argument, which they still remember. I’d been doing some of my own repairs for a while so I started to service it myself. Been learning ever since. Parts prices int as cheap as the average car and it’s had more than it’s fair share of replacement parts. But I forgets all that when I’m happily driving it. Yer can’t beat that special moment when it starts first time, or you complete yer journey without something felled oft or it breaking down.

Peeps poke fun at ma hippo. The doors int falled oft and they never will. Onlookers have been surprised at what he can do oft road. If I wanted a proper oft roader I’d buy a Unimog. Anything else is just a pretender. Many don’t realise the capabilities of a Freelander. That dun’t mean he dun’t get stuck. Once bellied out needing a push and twice needing a short pull due to bellied front end and no traction to reverse. Slittys used for recovery.

If I were to listen to the bullies about ma hippos potential faults, I’d be a nervous wreck. All this crap about gaskets, autos, ird, chassis splits… makes yer think it’s the only car in the world that has “design features”. All cars have their own common faults. It’s as if they think they’ll last forever.

I loves ma hippo I does. He makes me happy. We’ve had some sad times when he’s been broke’d but we’ve always got through it so far. I’d miss him if he was proper broke’d, or beyond the point of a feasible repair when considering the cost. It’s my choice to keep him and that’s what I would like to do. I loves ma hippo I does. He makes me happy.

**** driver then! And doozel vs petrol? Even it out v vs v. Doubt its much quicker than a v8 Disco! As for offroad I happen to know a lane the freelander without lowrange wouldn't get up there :p

See above :D

No i think it was a combination of no diff lock and 18" rims with tyres not suitable for the terrain but then my Freelander had the standard Wranglers. Sometimes things just don't go the way they are supposed to ;)
