Really? I've had 205s on mine previously and I've got 7.5 on it just now and they are definitely larger. I did think they were the same as 235s

205/80/16 were standard on a 90 with 235/75/16 as options on alloys. 7.50/16 were standard on a 110. 235/85/16 were originally on optional alloys and then standard on later Defender 110 models. The 7.50/16's have the same rolling diameter as the 235/85/16's, but are the equivalent of a 205 tyre in width.

It's been interesting. Now the big wheel brigade have left the building. It is harder to turn a 90 back to how it was made than I thought. Thanks for what seems to be the definitive answer to the actual question I asked and not the perceived question most thought I asked.

AFAIK 90's had 205'', it was the MOD that harmonised their fleet to 750's. 205's were standard on basic models ...

IIRC 205/80r16 was standard 750R16 was option , pretty much carried on from series cross ply choice where the 109 standard was the 88 option . not sure at what point the 235/85 arrived , most likely with the ali wheel option as a 750 would be a bit narrow . HTSH
