If the heater system is in good order, it really depends on the engine. 2.5NA are a good engine, but not as efficient as Tdi, and old design cooling system. 2.5 TD there is always plenty of waste heat going! Both run fairly warm, TD sometimes too warm.

200 and 300 Tdi are very efficient engines, not much waste heat to play with, cooling system upgraded.

By the time Td5 came along, designers seem to have rethought the heating, heaters I have seen in them seem to deliver the goods a bit more.



On the occasions I have got stuck, diff lockers wouldn't have made any difference. Where they might come in handy is in icy conditions. I haven't been caught out yet , but very close on a couple of occasions. The mother in-law lives way out in the sticks at 900 meters. She is in the snow line for a good three months of the year. Its rather tight turning at her place and its on a slope. When I reverse to do a three point turn it can be slippery in certain conditions. Once I have sorted the heating system out Diff lockers will probably be on the list for the next upgrade.

Good in slippery conditions, especially together with letting the tyres down a bit all round. For occasional use ARBs are good, if you cba with the on board compressor and air pipes.

I was joking, really... but seeing as @mikescuba is in the Alps, (!), I think the FBH idea is the way to go - on a timer too - mmm.... imagine coming out to it in the morning, and it being all nice and toasty....:cool:

Struth, don't tell SWMBO ( mine or yours !!) or we'll all need them !!:D

Used to be -20 in Scotland first thing in the morning on forestry work! Only takes a few minutes to clear the screen! :)

Are they mega bucks in FR?

Just had a nosy at flea bay UK - quite a few second hand webasto ones for about £100.... ?? - don;t know if that's good or bad...?
I would buy it from the UK. Everything in France is mega bucks. I'm looking into the import duty. It appears if imported to France there is a hefty import tax to pay. Whereas if imported to the UK there is none. I have a mate who would bring it over.

I would be a little concerned buying these second hand ones for around £100. I would want something complete that can be fitted without too much trouble. I like the idea of the unit On ebay having its own diesel container so you don't have to feed the fuel line back to the Defenders fuel tank. I had a Sprinter that had a webasto one fitted. It heated the cab up very quickly. I used to start the motor, then clear off all the snow from the windscreen. By the time I had done that the cab was warm. And that's in temperatures of -15c /-18c

Every time I visited Scotland it did nothing but rain, none stop. I spent a week scuba diving in Oban. I could have left my wet suit on for the whole week. The only time the sun came out was just as I was driving off back home. Think there is a message there.

East coast is sunnier, but much colder.

To be fair, just as wet and windy here as up there. You get used to the mould growing on you after a bit! :D

Hi guys, yeah I get your point there about the lift, but I wasn't the one who did it originally. Anyway, all shocks are on and it feels really nice. Definitely reccomend the pro comps!
