Hi Guys,

I am now preparing the series 3 body. Can I ask, what grit sand paper is best for preparing the body for painting? I have started off with 80 on my orbital sander....then working my way up 120,180,240? Is this the best way?? What grit is best?

As a very rough guide....

If you are priming then finish with a 240 and a red scotchbrite to key the area. Then prep primer with a 500/800 wet or dry sand paper and a grey scotch.

Without knowing the ins and outs of what your doing it’s hard to be specific. Depends whether it’s base and clear or 2k direct gloss paint, also what colour could slightly alter what you do. It’ll also vary if your brush painting, roller or hvlp.

Don’t be priming over anything less than a 240 as you can run the risk of seeing scratch marks or pig tails in the final coat, or risk sinkage and don’t be painting over anything less than a 500 (800 would be better) for the same reasons.

I used a broken breeze block for the prep and went all the way down to fine gravel for the detailing.

Use a well worked in yard broom for the top coats. Its worth the extra effort.

:D:D
