KBS Rustseal overpainted with Satin smooth black hammerite is the mutts nuts!
But as Andy says, you need to treat inside as well - personally recommend Ankor Wax as it's more liquid than waxoyl, easier to spray and doesn't need the surfaces to be bone dry.
Presently I'm trying the 'get it very dry then Tetra Schutz the granny out of it' approach, closely followed by the 3M cavity wax inside the chassis follow up.
My rear cross-member will be shot blasted, zinc primed via a metal arc process to bond the zinc to the metal, then given a coat of rust bullet primer followed by a spray coat of rust bullet blackshell. Then Tetra Schutz'ed like the remainder of the chassis.
