Pays your money and takes your choice. I use full syn 5W40, easier starting in the cold and a little more fuel economy. Others say ordinary mineral and change more often.

Thanks Datatek
I don’t want to put the wrong stuff in I’d rather pay a bit more and get it right
Could prove costly later
Thanks for your advice

I'm a 10/40 semi myself each to there own if you have a handbook you would see that the BMW is very versatile when it comes to its oil

datatek is there much of a difference in fuel economy between the mineral oil and syntetic ? im averaging about 22 local and 30 on long run p38 dse manual

Thats about right for DSE manual....

Oil choice is personal preference - personally i go full synthetic and get your sort of MPGs on my manual. I also have a PSI box, upgraded panel filter and flushed intercooler, and a stainless exhaust.

Just go for a good quality with a grade to suit your change intervals and the ambient temps. As mentioned previously i use 15/40 all year round with problems, if expecting a particularly cold winter then prob drop down to 10/40. How ever cold weather and dark nights will see your mpg drop anyway.

Maybe, but you would need a maths degree to work it out. There would be a zero at the start, then a point involved, then a whole load of zeros before you could put any other numbers in. :D :D:D

I have a maths degree how about 0.00008325 :D

It's noticable in very cold weather and it starts more easily, otherwise maybe not a measurable difference. I average 24mpg brim to brim on local mileage but not a lot of traffic here:D

Sorry nearest i could get using my fingers and toes. Of course if you came from Burnley and had twelve fingers and toes, you could possibly improve on the accuracy somewhat. :D:D:D

Must be referring to the posh part of Burnley cause I was led to believe it was 14 fingers and toes bloody good banjo players tho :D:D:D
