went out to start my classic bobtail today and the gearbox (auto) makes a nice rattely noise when in anything except park. Still drives though (only as far as the end of the drive as didnt like the noise.Starter made a nice ring noise as well like it had lost a tooth or two. any ideas anyone. Gearbox problem of more concern as a starter i can deal with.

further to this, removed starter and the drive gear on the starter is completely goosed. the shroud that covers the drive gear is mostly gone.(in bell housing) and a photo inside the hole it came out of shows at least one knackered tooth on the starter ring. where do i go from here. The starter was on virtualy hand tight so my initial joy at the ease it came out was turned to dispair at the damage that had been done.
