nakered or dry UJ's make??

Done a bit of a search and I can't find nuffink that describes me problem.

I got an intermittent grinding noise coming what sounds like the front left.

There's no pattern as to when its stops n starts although I find a couple of turns left n right can sort it out sometimes. When grinding it seems worse when turning left and most of the time goes when I'm turning right.

The grinding really is a horrid noise! Like... metal on metal and every now n then it affects make me landy go a bit wobbly!

Obviously I've stopped drivin it apart from test drives but its annoying cos I never seem to have the grinding noise when someone else is about to listen too!

My first thoughts were "oh feck my swivel could be dry" as I have a slow leak on the N/S seal so splurted some more oneshot in n it hasn't done anything :(

So my next thought is maybe (as I've put me noo suspension on last week) is that the UJ's are either nakered or dry as they didn't seem to healthy before hand...

checked em last when when I did the suspension... I'll check again tomorrow I spose, last thing I want is the wheel fallin off!:eek::eek:

yea got one shot grease in me hubs!

UJ's have always sounded like chattering chirping noises to me. Please tell me you've lifted all the wheels and spun them and pulled them around etc? :)

I had a noise very similar. At first I thought uh so greased it and by coincidence it seemed quieter.
But then I jacked it up an oil came out swivel, it turned out to be the needle roller bearing for the half shaft
Regards

I fink tomorrow I shall jack her up n yank the wheels about a bit - I didn't really check em thoroughly last week so I'll consciously have a good butchers tomorrow n at the same time I spose I best order a 4 bolt flange kit for me rear diff n get the wide angled props on with some grease... Was hoping someone would give a definitive answer - will report back tomorrow, thanks so far guys :D

feckin landies :frusty: :p

Check the brake back plate too as they rot and can grind also abnormal wear on pads or a lipped disc is worth a look

Brakes were replaced last week...

ding ding ding top prize for wheel bearings though... they came out in bits n pieces but unfortunately its taken all day at the stub axles appear to be fooked! Managed to get the noo ones back on eventually with plenty of grease n persuasion... with this, the leaky swivel seal and a strange whining noise on deceleration I think I'm gonna have a look for another axle, strip it down n re-condition it over the winter!
