Havent had an MOT yet not due til August. People on here who are in the know like Stig have told me that its not an issue for the MOT and I believe them. The proof will be MOT in august.

Make sure they are changing all belts, tensioners, waterpump etc... normaly 100 quid for bits so £250 dunt sound too bad (2hrs+ for labour)

Just dont know how you guys get so good fuel consumption with your Disco's,
my 2001 auto 2.5 manages around the 21 mpg only 60000 on the clock, and no black smoke at any time.
Maybe the tank is leaking !!!!!!

Well for a start have you still got the EGR valve conected? Getting rid of that will gain you at least 2 or 3 mpg plus better performance!

Thanks Jason2,
The EGR is i assume to do with the exhaust gases, how would this be disconnected, and what would be the downside of disconnection
Cheers Vernon

Do a search for EGR (nearly as popular as sex) But basicaly You buy a plate or kit off e-bay and you stop burnt exhaust gases being re-circulated into your engine and sooting your manifold up and making it run poorly.Blanking has no adverse effects not even for M.O.T

Just don't use the right hand pedal on the floor

I just checked my TD5 today and it used 52 litres of diesel for 345 miles of mixed drving, even including a bit off-road sheep-chasing.

That is just over 30 mpg, which I think is quite reasonable.

I drive gently and brake as little as possible.

Cruise control whenever safe.

On long motorway runs I can break FORTY miles per gallon.

EGR blocking was the first thing I did.

AS a matter of interest does your landy have cruise control?

If it's a TD5 the bits to fit it cost THIRTY pounds and it is DIY in one hour!

I wondered why the CC wouldnt work on my 300TDi before finding out the buttons were for the stereo!

Incidentally, the book mpg figure for mine at a constant 56 is 47MPG. Someone had a sense of humour.

Hi guys,
Just been to my local Landy specialist today, with my 2001 Disco ES to have air suspension done away with, .and replaced with coil springs. Also had 25mm spacers fitted, had asked for 50mm, but could not do it without a lot more expence.
Looks great now with the transplant. Have got 2 spacers left, as the kit was 4 of them, i was charged £70 for the 4, no reasonable offer refused.
Asked the garage about blanking of EGR, said he had done plenty of TDis but never a TD5 reckons the management system would'nt like it.
But reading through the forum it does'nt seem a problem.

Puhhh Landy Specialist that has never blanked a EGR on a TD5, When did he open last week?

You can blank it no problems and your engun will love it!

Enjoy:)

it'sno problem at all - 20 min job & your disco will run a lot better for it - done over 600 miles since i did mine & it's a lot easier to drive - cant' comment on any increase in mpg - but got an 800 mile round trip to do next week so should get a good idea then

800 miles huh ?

I would very nearly take a bet that my TD5 Disco could do 800 miles on one tankful!

I definitely managed over FORTY-TWO miles per gallon in July on a trip to Surrey, 417 miles on less than 44 litres. Cruise control and a steady 56 mph all the way. A bit boring but a comfy drive all the way.

I must say I like my Disco.

I like it LOTS and LOTS!

yep - that's my plan - got a 280 mile trip down to corwallland & back again & probly do a couple of hundred running about while we're down there - so hoping to be able to do it ALL on one tankful

A friend has just bought an L reg Disco, really nice. The manual claims alsorts for the MPG and he reckons 30 on average (A TDI, 2.5 diesel I think).

Does that sound about right?

I want to bin my car and get a Land Rover of some sort - anything reliably above 30mpg (which is the best my 2.0li petrol car will get) would be useful. Is there a Landy which will do this please?

Thank you!

Just been to Scotland & back in my Td5. Filled up in Farnborough Hampshire, (95 Ltrs) 600 miles later arrived in Inverness with a little to spare, I'll leave the maths up to you .

If you had two gallons left in the tank (the warning light would have been on for 50 miles already!) that would be well over thirty five miles per gallon.

Can't be bad for a two-tonner 4x4.

Great way to cover distances ... comfy .... smooth.
