I know im abit keen on asking the questions today, what millage are your td5's on and what problems have you had with them? Real hard choice wether to buy this 02 reg td5 manual with 170k on the clock, Cheers

Just get it worry when it goes wrong.164k on mine done 2 hubs in 16 months.changed clutch, radiator ,water pump.these parts were changed for peace of mind not cos faulty.look after it and will look after you

It all depends on how well it has been looked after. If regular services have been missed and other faults left to fester it could be very worn, or if looked after it could be fine for many more miles. I would try to find out if it has a decent service history.

Although that is not always worth the paper it is written on.

Like any second hand car.. it is always a bit of a gamble.. just try to stack the cards in your favour.

Ours has 145k with minimal service history, but drives OK and engine feels very strong. New radiator and lots of new water pipe clips make me think the head gasket may have been done but I cannot be sure. Ours needed a clutch, and work on propshafts and various other bits, but think of a Landy a bit differently from normal cars. When a run of the mill car goes wrong when it's old you scrap it, with a Landy you just keep repairing and replacing!!!!

At high mileage many of the bits that fail will have done so and been replaced so it's not necesarily a bad thing. I have heard the TD5 can be good for 300,000 miles if looked after.

I'm on 177k but I have a few wiring issues but this is due to previous owners attempts at "repairs" and I'm solving other wear problems by modifying it as I want it. All I can say is what the others have said if its been looked after well it will be fine, if not it will require a little time and tlc but could still be a good disco

65.5k on an 04 plate td5. So far no problems, both previous owners serviced it at the main stealer in Swansea.

The last owner had more money than sense; nobody puts Goodyear Wranglers on as second fit replacement tyres and the first owner was LR themselves; a forecourt demo model.

My dad's has 155k and it pulls great. We had to do the rear airbags, and I've cleaned of the MAP sensor. Only other bugbears have been the usual sunroofs constantly leaking, the ECU on the rear roof packed in due to water ingress and the driver's wiper arm falling off during a massive snowstorm in Germany!

Mines on 190k, she leaks.

She leaks through the sunroof
She leaks oil out of the transfer box
She leaks oil into the injector harness
She leaks coolant (somewhere - Probably the head gasket!)
She leaked PAS fluid all over the drive
She currently leaks ACE fluid

In her spare time I think that
She leaks fuel out of the regulator thingy
She leaks oil out of the gearbox
She leaks oil out of the engine.

She also rusts
She rusts on the window tops
She rusts in the rear chassis
She rusts at the bottom of the drivers door
She rusts just above the Windscreen

When she isn't doing these leisurely things, parts of her just break.
Like the rear wiper arm or the fuel gauge sensor etc etc

But I love her dearly

At 170k, it boils down to 3 things - previous maintenance, price, what you're willing to fork out on (in money and time)

Personally I wouldn't want to spend much over a 2k for one with that many miles on it - well, unless she had 5 brand new tyres on her!
