Can all of those with 100k + miles who know they have an original vcu, perform the One Wheel Up Test and Turnip Test, and put the results in the results fred at the top of the Freelander forum?

Thanks.

2006 TD4 Commercial on 220000, will have a look at VCU but it has a full LR service history up to 180000 odd if I remember correctly and no mention of VCU being replaced, gets used off road everyday and 4wd works perfectly. Prior to me buying it it was owned buy a plant hire company so guess it had a hard life then as well.

My 2006 td4 commercial has 146k miles but I had a 2004 freelander commercial before this one with 263,000 miles with the original engine I put 140,000 on in 4 years mainly motorway with work apart from servicing and brakes all I did to the engine was a new set of injectors( about £1000 for 4) I only got rid of it because a wagon run into the back of it! I think regular servicing and quality parts are the key :) they might not have a very good 4x4system but they have a great BMW engine if looked after.

2002 TD4 GS Manual, 132k, running very well, pokey and smooth. Has had a clutch and VCU recently. (no major issues but a number of minor electrical issues)

1996 Discovery 300TDi, 104k, running ok-ish, sounds like a cement mixer full of spanners when cold, low on power until warmed up, weak synchromesh on 3rd, excessive driveline lash (just about everything electrical has been repaired). Still love driving it tho...

120k things are starting to go wrong...

But no more than usual....ive always had a nice trickle of faults:D

My silver Td4 is on 115,000. Last year I decided to change all fluids. As it was on the ramp the ird fluid was drained and it still looked as good as new and there were no metal filings in it either. So we decided to remove the pinion to check it's condition. It looked almost as good as new, which was a surprise. I've changed the clutch and fitted a recon gearbox around 12,000 miles ago.The VCU is original. The injectors have given me trouble and at least 2 have been replaced, with another needing replacement soon.I've gone through 2 o/s front and 1 n/s driveshafts. But I expected to replace driveshafts with the 50mm lift and nobbly tyres.

My 1.8 is just coming up to 125,000 - put on a prt stat last month and found the jiggle valve ball bearing had been removed by a prior owner - two years HG trouble free for me so maybe thats one reason why :)
