O.K. so I think I must have placed my enquiry in the wrong forum and didn`t explain myself properly so I`ll repeat it here. I`m looking for a Land Rover capable legally to pull a gross trailer weight of three and a half tons. Its to both pull a braked trailer with boat on and a vintage horse box for shows thats also braked. So I`d prefer a classic series say from 68 until 74. Any advice appreciated.

None of the Landies from that period in time are rated to tow 3500kg, except possibly the Range Rover. If you want a "proper" Land Rover capable of towing up to 3500kg you'll need a 90 or 110. Or a Disco or Rangie.

The thing to take away from the information given in the thread I linked to is that you can only legally tow up to 3500kg if the trailer is continuously braked. It's 2000kg if the trailer uses over-run braking.
