Hi All

Having had a few Range Rovers in the past, a neighbour has offered me one that I have no idea whats its worth. I currently own a MAhindra jeep which I regularly abuse in every possible terrain but always wanted another Range Rover. This one is a Left Hand Drive I was made to be ship to California but one reason or another it stayed in this country.

My neighbour has kept it in his barn from almost new just taking it for the old blast and for its yearly MOT and service which thankfully he has kept all documentation. It has full leather, aircon and every possible added feature. The rear seats have never been sat in. The year is 1992 on a J Reg and has only done a genuinely fully documentated 23,000 miles Other than one spec of bubbling is in mint conditon and you could eat your dinner from the undeneath.

My probably is I have no idea whats its worth and after a long search on the tinternet I'm still no wiser. So any ideas as to its value really would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Al

At the end of the day it's still a 15 year old Range Rover and being a left hooker won't help the price here................................................
If it's a V8 then £1200 tops
A diesel £1500 tops

Cheers v8kenny, he wants a grand more than that so I think ill pass. Does look nice though and would be a potential classic but that would be quite a few years down the line.

Barter man, barter ! - that's half the fun of buying cars and what he's probably waiting on ! :D

Trust me Kenny that was after a lot of haggling he initially wanted £3k! Kind of bloke who doesn't need the money so will just keep it for another 15 years and not drive it..........then it really would be worth £2500.

I think it's well worth what he's asking, why buy a pile of crap with mega mileage and spend loads of dosh on it. If I was in the market I'd have ripped his arm off.

Have a look on ebay and you'll find a classi RR 1992 with present bidding currently at £1900 .(item no 260181090432)

Although bidding for the following has finished (reserve not met),do yourself a favour and have a look.Item no 320182820415
See what the bidding got to and then see the pictures of the rust .

I've got to agree with Tervuren.

Why buy a load of trouble ,when for a few bucks more you can have a virtually new vehicle.

I know what I would do .

Good Luck.

I guess its like anything it only worth as much as you are prepared to pay for it but £2500 sounds mighty expensive for a 1992 rangy.
Especialy being left hand drive.

Thanks for all the replies much appreciated. Looking at those previous listings groenendael its seems worth £2500 as it really is in almost new condition though i'm not sure how big a difference being a left hooker would make.

To be honest i was not in the market for a Rangy at the time just noticed it in the corner of his barn. But being a sucker for 4x4's (currently own a Willys & Mahindra Jeep) I though i would buy it as an investment or even to sell on for a couple of quid extra. With that in mind I think £2000 more the mark but I know he wont accept that.

I recall seeing a Metro with 18k miles go for £1900 on ebay a few weeks ago and I know what I would rather have.

.............If it wasn't for the fact I only have storage for 2 vehicles I probably would buy it to keep as it will only appreciate in value. But if I did buy either the Mahindra (used for off roading) or the Willys Utility Wagon (rare as rocking horse sh*t) would have to go. Either of which i don't want to sell. There isn't enough money in it to sell on so I think I'm going to have to pass, shame though it's damn rare to find one in this condition.

I have to say personally, I think its worth the money. Classics are going up in price. I bid on a 1993 k reg one the other day (right hooker) admitadly but had no coolant in it before i test drove it and was still outbid on it. Sold for £5,000. !!!!

Thats one with 70,000 miles on the clock. So sounds good. Dont know what problems to expect on such a rarely driven car though? Guess there needs to be a budget for replacing seals etc.

All I can say is from what I was looking at that sounds like a fair price despite the steering wheel being on the wrong side!

I think your right land over, Im going to have another look in the next few days and suggestions what specifically I should look at for as its been rarely used?

Cheers

Bearing in mind I am no expert, The biggest thing I would insist on is a REALLY decent test drive, not the ususal 5 miles round the block.

What little I have learned from my ownership of Classics is :

Check all the toys, unused toys in Range Rovers, seem to die in my experience. Try windows from each switch front and back.

Also Sunroof, electric seats Rear wash wipe etc etc central locking,

Make sure you see it and drive it from cold, then just all the usual checks of coolant level, oil level smell of auto fulid etc and If it were me would look underneath it before the drive carefully to see how dry engine, gear box etc is make sure there is no coolant leaking anywhere etc.

Then do all the usual test drive stuff. Letting it idle when hot/ cold with all the heating / on steering on full lock in D. Making sure it doesnt stall. Not a killer if it does, just gives you an idea of a few things.

Then check under car and bonnet when back and car is hot, see if axels, diffs, engine, gear box etc are leaking. Again no big problem, just all costs you would have to spend to fix it. Without burning your hand, feel the hoses between radiator and engine. Should not be rock solid. IF you can check the coolant when cold if car aint too far away.

Would look at the service history too and make sure it has still had all its proper services done bearing in mind it is age or mileage whichever comes first so just cos it has sat in a shed, as Far as Land Rover are concerned it should still be serviced on something like 100,000 by now given its every six months with those ones. So even though its been in the shed it should have had two services per year. I realise that seems excessive, but that is only true LRFSH and if it doesnt have that then there is a bit of bargingin for you.

Then only other thing I can think of is to phone your local LR Dealer with the orginal numberplate for the car, if it has been changed and see if all the recall stuff was done.

Thats all i can think of really, hope it is of some help. Good luck with it anyways, sounds like a lovely car.

thanks land over for your very informative reply. I'll be going out on a limb a bit with this but it all comes up good and i think i will take the chance lets face it sound only appreciate in value. With regards to service history i think its going to be a case of him doing his own which i know will devalue it. But on the plus side he has all the previous mot's. I think you can call this a borderline case so i'll just go on gut instinct.

If i do buy it as i dont have the space for another 4x4 ill probably list it on ebay, ill forward the link to see what you think but be afor a few weeks tho

Cheers again mate
