Stripping bits off n/s inner wing , I found this.....



What does it do, and how do I get it off ??

It's rubber mounted and the nuts are rusted up.

Looks like solenoid for egr valve I finks.

My disco 1 , doesn't have one of these , however it's had its erg blocked off before I bought it ....if that helps any

Vacuum pump for cruise control / EGR / brakes, same as Defender

how do I get it off?

the nuts rusted and it all moves on the rubber......aint got the strength in my hand to hold it while attacking the nut.

Wd40 soak overnight after spraying

Big spanner on rear rusty bit

Socket on front rusty nut

Work socket anti clockwise whilst applying clockwise pressure on big spanner

If still not enough strength and not worried about rebuilding just take hacksaw to rubber and cut right off

Can this be taken out the engine bay without an problems?
need to blank off anything?

EGR is blanked off.
Cruise Control is not used any more (cable is taken off throttle thingy)
no EDC.

As said, cut the rubbers. Also trace the plastic vaccum pipes back and blank them off. One on the airbox, one on the bulkhead, can't remember the last one but I think there are 3. I just used small self tappers to blank them.

It's just for the EGR as the cruise pump is under the 2nd battery tray behind the nearside headlight so you could still use cruise in the future if you decide to fix it.

if you cut the rubbers and want to rebuild - use tiger seal
