I decided to deal with a diesel smell in my Disco today. Having made sure that I don't have a leak from the pipes where they link to the fuel pump, I'm hopeful that my diesel soaked load space carpet is the result of either a previous leak, or a spill from a careless previous owner. The carpet is heading for the local rubbish tip and I've managed to source a replacement from a breaker. Before I fit it I want to eliminate any chances that there is a leak somewhere. I spent today cleaning the load space and scraping off all of the diesel soaked soundproofing. Most of the rear trim is out, awaiting the new carpet, and I'm out in the Disco tomorrow hoping that no new diesel appears where it shouldn't.

While I was cleaning the loadspace out I noticed a strange rubber bellows behind the left trim, and I've no idea why it's there. It had diesel on it (but then so did everything) and I want to eliminate it as a potential leak source. Doesn't anyone know what it does, and if its linked to the fuel system?

The attached photo hopefully shows what I mean

Thanks in advance

Need a bigger picture to see its location in relation to the boot space.
At first glance I would say its a blanking plug for the fuel tank filler pipe, take it they press out both sides and dependent on LHD or RHD decides which side gets the blank and which side gets the filler pipe. IMO

It's on the left hand side, behind the trim piece. The bolt in the background is the lower attachment for the third row seat on the left side. Does that help?

Is it not just the cab breathers? Does it just go to the outside?

It's something to do with pressurisation of the cab so that exhaust doesn't get sucked back into the cab.

If its a blanking plate, or some sort of grommet, it's hugely over engineered. It's fixed from beneath with a metal flange, attached by two bolts - and yes, they are rusty!

This is where the air con pipes enter the D2, on models with rear air con. Nothing to so with fuel system and aslong as no holes in it then nothing to worry about, I used mine to put the 7 core cable to me 12s socket.
