Following on from my suspension thread, having picked up the car, I'm now wondering what this is under the cigarette lighter. It pulls out a few mm and the light comes on, but can't notice it doing anything. Push it in and the light goes out.
Does anyone have an idea what it is without me tracing the wires?

After market pull out switch, could be for anything, follow the wires and see where they go, do not leave it switched on until you've found the end of it, I found a bare end of a cable that was once for a reversing lamp that was bolted to the tow hitch, had I left it on I would have started yet another fire in my Discovery.

Lol that's where I was going. Got one in mine but it's momentary type. Haven't a clue what it is for

This is one thing which I've never liked about second hand vehicles. There's always a previous owner who has modified something, usually electrical and either not used the best possible practice for the job, incorrect gauge of wire, not using fuses, etc. and almost never documenting the modification for their own use or more importantly for passing on to the next owner.
There are two ways to find out where the wires from that switch go:-
  1. Manually trace them out or
  2. Turn the switch on and watch where the smoke comes from.
