Maybe petrol,

But I do know it is not in the right place on the chassis.

its a rover v8 hot wire,if you look at number near where dipstick tube enters the block it will tell you compression and whether a 3.5,3.9 or 4.2

Looks like a 3.9.

Yeah definitely the mighty buick 215/rover V8. 3.5/3.9/4.2 (should say on it)
