Hi all
I have been looking at another defender as you do
even though i have not finished the one I have
But the one i looked at was a 2008 and the chassis looked buggered !

which got me thinking
So has anyone rebuilt a defender thats less than 8 years old ??

Hmm, I was thinking about buying a newer Defender but if that's what the new ones are like I think I will stick with my 1990, 110, Defender 200 tdi.
It still has the original 200 tdi engine, Although I have just changed the valve seal stems. Original Chassis, I have replaced the rear cross member. No other welding done. I did replace the foot wells, they rusted. I have lost count how many times it has crossed Morocco, and its going again next March.
Think I will just get it resprayed and keep it.

Don't "Twisted" buy new defender's and strip them apart immediately? :)
Yes they do
But they are new, nothing has started to rot out like the 2008 one I looked at
It really got me thinking if the chassis is bad then the bulkhead etc can not be far behind .

I've seen rusty rear cross-members on Defender's less than 2 years old

Got to love that premium Chinese steel

ive seen a dry rust run out the rear cross member on a fender sat in Rocksides land rover showroom a few years back ...lol

The chassis was rotted out on a 2008 Defender?
Maybe it was used to launch a boat every weekend, so got driven into the sea. All seem to have surface rust, unless they have been sprayed with wax.

I looked at a bunch of landys with intention of spending 10k

The chassis or bulkhed on each and every one was not far behind my 28year old one.

So i spent 4k and rebuilt my old one !

That's what I'm thinking
For one that age it must have been used as a life boat

Is is not a tad dangerous crossing Morocco at the moment?
