Hi guys what is a reasonable cost to have a 200 tdi fitted into a current 2.5 na, I'm really tempted to do it myself but I don't have a engine crane, and I don't have a garage where it could just be left for weeks. I have had. Quick read of the 200 tdi conversion page just wanted to hear how easy or hard it is in 'leymans' terms

If you cant do it yourself you're looking at 500 for the engine and same again for labour.

If you have a mate who will do it, maybe half that.

Best way is to buy a scrapper disco 1 for about 500, use the engine and rad etc and sell the rest off...you should break even!

I think my conversion was about £1800. That included everything I needed. New heavy duty clutch, engine, new exhaust system, new engine mounts, new electric fan, cambelt, water pump, full service including all filters/oil etc. I paid the higher end of a conversion but it was well worth it for me. It's been in about 18 months now and hasn't missed a beat - Done by Glencoyne

Glencoyne has a fantastic reputation. Always best to get some references and have a look at a few and see how tidy it is.

To be honest Glencoyne are right up there in landy engineering.

Chap i was going to have it done with was going to charge that but i would have to provide the engine. Luckily before it was done my gearbox failed and he swopped in a replacement i provided. Left me feeling ripped off. Wasn't happy with the job and wouldn't recommend him. To swop gearbox and do seals it cost me £800. He did a full service too but decided i would do it all myself.

when my Son and I did his N/A to 300tdi conversion, the engine and all the bits inc new clutch, new radiator, used intercooler, front exhaust, middle box and custom rear half, turbo pipe (home made bigger bore) probably totalled just under a grand all in all (we kept the LT77 Box). It is cheaper if you have a disco to break and get bits from. Not as tricky as I thought it would be, did it over a long weekend. If you are in East Cornwall try James Tenant near Okehampton West Devon.
