Will put one on soon, but I dont think thats the fuel pipe.

Thought the big one, with jubilee clips on is the fuel pipe (well seems to go in the right direction anyway)

Whats the other one?

Had another look, that goes to the vacum advance on the dizzy. So wont be disaterous if it comes off. Will put a clip on sometime.

Theres currently no breather pipe from the oil filler tube, just he little nipple on the oil filler with no pipe. Will fit one soon.

Is it better to go down under the engine, or back to the manifold (the little bit hats taped off)

it should go to the outlet in the side of yer oil filler cap, allmost any tubing thats big enuf will do

plenty of peeps have blocked it orf and taken the outlet from the oil filler cap down via tubing to just below the engine as it's not such a good idea introducing oilly air into the fuel system, which is what you do tend to get with if yer valves/seats arent spring chickens

That's what they used to do, then in the late 60s they started to put the closed system in to stop vehicles polluting the atmosphere with oil fumes (this was in the good old days before global warming had been invented, when our biggest concern was a fun oil fumes!)

Not EGR, but an old BMC type of crankcase fumes control valve.

I was a way to connect the insides of the engine to the manifold so the fumes got burned instead of being released into the air in the bonnet space.

They called it a sealed breather system I think.

They need to be kept clean inside.

yeah we've done that bit. when i sed it was an early type of egr valve type thingy i was using that term loosely to give folk an idea what it was and what it did. which if yer read the fred you would have understood. and its not sealed because it allows fresh air back in to help purge the crankcase . which has also bin mentioned before in this fred, and th ecleaning of it has also bin mentioned.

It has nothing to do with recirculating exhaust gases, as in from the exhaust system.
It's important people realise that.

Air was let IN to the crankcase somewhere, and then fumes were sucked out into the inlet manifold. This was very effective at removing water and condensation from inside the engine, which prevented acid formation.

It was in its day a very effective system. Before then you could often see crankcase fumes trailing out from under cars in front, and sometimes those fumes ended up inside the car too.

i can see how yer getting confused with the egr bit.. it was meant to show that it burns stuff that otherwise would be allowed to escape into the atmosphere. which is why i called it LIKE and TYPE and THINGY as opposed to just an early erg.

its a one way valve which allows fumes from the crankcase into the manifold. the fresh air get in via the breather which as yer know could be on the rocker cover or up the side or even both. depending how much bodging has bin done to the injun.
because its a one way valve it also stops any misfires going back down into the sump which is why it is also called a flame trap.

if i could be bothered i'd copy all the splurge from me big book of landies, but i can't
