Daughter to me - "Dad what is that yellow thing on the back of that Landrover"
Me - "it’s a bridge plate"
Daughter - "what’s a bridge plate?"
Me - "it’s a thing that tells the army how heavy the car is"... at this point I am bluffing and trying to sound knowledgeable...

So my question is... what exactly is a bridge plate, why are the yellow and are they supposed to have weights stamped or written on them?
