I got the heavy duties from paddocks, done the job, tough as nails. Not expensive and easy to fit.

same here. I bent my original steering bars into a Z. I haven't managed to damage the HD ones.......yet.:D

I bought the HD ones from mail order 4x4 a couple of days ago, they've been fitted today and are fine, greasable ends and everything.

it's all well and good fitting HD steering bars, but has anybody given a thought to whats going to break if you steering rods can't bend, personnally I'd rather fit a standard steering tube ,if it gets bent it can be removed and straightened reasonably enough to get you home,if the rods cant bend ,something far more serious might break, just my thought and experiance

Just out of curiosity what did you break when your HD steering rods didn't bend?

The arm on the swivel pin housing broke ,managed to winch/drag the landy off the lane and back onto the road, then phoned RAC,who wern't that impressed.

ive since fitted a standard T/R and just carry the HD one as a spare if the standard one is so bad it can't be straightened

I haven't heard of anyone doing that before. Are you sure you didn't hit the actual housing rather than the steering bars?
