Did think about putting in the car (which has a top notch heater, heated screen, everything electric....but decided I didn't want a dirty old oven in there. Defender it was !

Damn, not going to treat my 90 like that.............That's why we allow pikeys around here.............

Cheers

Changed the old rusty headlamps for some crystal type lamps today.
Checked to make sure it was all working before screwing it back together and I come to it tonight and one of my dipped beams isn't working.
Typical!

It wasn't greasy or anything like that, bit grubby behimd after ten years fitted in units and given the weight easier to get in and carry out of the Defender.

Ordered a pair of Bearmach Crystal clear headlights as one of the Wipac Crystal clear headlights got water in the last time we went off roading oh and a new accelerator cable aswell :(

Off to Wales today to see a friend who lives at Pennal:

It was slow going between Wolverhampton and Telford early this morning what with freezing fog reducing visibility and making a crust on the windscreen. I had my finger on the windscreen washer almost all the way!

Anyway, I got there and after a nourishing fried breakfast in Machynlleth we went out to admire the countryside. We saw the furnace at the eponymously-named village of Furnace:

That water wheel is much restored and probably dates from when the premises were used as a sawmill. Rather than driving a blower for the metalworking.
I made some new little friends:

They were tiny - about the size of a Labrador. Then we went and looked at some old mine workings:

Here are some "buddles" which would have been used for separating ore:

And here's a waterwheel pit:

And here's a mineshaft:

These particular workings were never very productive, so the story goes. They were set up speculatively, without any convincing geological survey evidence, and were largely used to fleece money out of the investors. There's a lot of lead in the area, and these mines are probably in what's called the Glyndyfi Tract, so they probably should have yielded something . . .

Just been out to investigate the exhaust leak on the manifold. The little plate that covers up the EGR hole had lost the head of one of its screws, and the leak sounded like it was getting worse throughout my trip to Wales yesterday. I had a go at getting the remaining screw out just now and after rounding out the hex socket with an Allen key, I twisted its head off with an Irwin bolt grip. So now I have no blanking plate and two snapped off screws.

Maybe this is a good time to be thinking about taking the manifold off anyway, and giving it a new gasket and some improved studs. There are tempting yet expensive manifolds available, or I might get a secondhand one off Ebay and experiment with it a bit, by grinding the webs out and other manifold fun.

Got a spare set of keys cut for the Fender from Timpsons - yeah I know I coulda fashioned a teaspoon to do the same job :D.

Was going to fit my new accelerator cable today but its just too cold everything is Iced over outside and I can't get the 90 in the garage with the 2a in there so it will have to wait till my new Crystal clear headlights arrive and if the weather is better I will fit them both then :(

Greased my UJ's, and steering, tightened my wheel bearings.

Went to vaseline my door seals and have lost my vaseline.....:oops:, not sure where that has gone.

Off to the shops tomorrow to stock up on more lube........

Cheers

Today other than just literally looking at it, I've taken the front bow shackles off as bought some new ones.

Thats it.

Being a lazy bastard took the 90 through the drive through car wash, confused the blower thing though, as it hit my bumper, no damage to landy so alls good! :)
