Today it broke... no surprise there then.

Wonder if one of you can help me :)

Got a disco transfer box on the back of an LT77 gearbox. Been running fine for 9k miles. But after an offroading trip recently it died today ( i think).

It has a habit of leaking all its fluid out, the box wasn't perfect when it went in. So i have a sneaky suspicion that a bearing has given up. When the gearbox is in neutral and transferbox is in gear (which is difficult to do), it roles forward and power is sent to the wheels. When the gearbox is in gear, any gear it doesn't matter, the whole things locks up and it stalls. No power gets passed the transfer box.

Does the gearbox output shaft spin when its in neutral? seems odd that it has power to the wheels when the gearbox is in neutral but totally locks up when its in gear.
Getting the transferbox in neutral and engaging the clutch it rattles like a pig (and sounds like there is a slight load on the engine), force it into gear while there is drive to it and it locks up and stalls.
Think i need to change the transfer box anyway, but does anyone know what this might be? And if its gearbox related instead?

why do the heavy things have to break.

Found that I had a disappearing clutch pedal yesterday so tried bleeding it up and got a good pedal. Went laning and it gradually got worse and worse to the point that I had to rev match to change gear. I have now changed the slave cylinder with another I had laying about and got it bled up real nice. Haven't had a chance to test it out yet though but no doubt that's for tomorrow. While I was out laning my diff locks linkage fell to bits. The little bar that links from the bottom of the pivoted bar from the stick to the plate on top of the transfer box has snapped just enough to make it jump out so I now can't select diff lock without getting under with a spanner. Does anyone know where to get this little bar from. I have done the usual evilbay searches and not found any of the linkages for the lt230 in my 200tdi D1
 
Yes thank you ftc3698 is the part in after cheers that'll save a lot of messing about trying to make something fit
 
I've also managed to find the clips now with the codes thanks. I was planning on hoping a tent peg could be shaped to fit then use my dremel to cut grooves to hold e clips to stop it jumping out
 
Cleared the crap from around my semi rebuilt Landy in preparation to carry on from where I left off about July last year. Must have it done by September this year or I'm giving up and selling up :D
 
Discovered me roof leaks like a fooking sieve and not just the sunroof. Looks like its gong to be a roof off and on with some silicone seal in between job in the spring. Too damn wet to do it at the moment.
 
Roller paint job and finally got the fueling sorted on a newly fitted 200tdi

Pulled out the wiper motor and cable, spun the wheelboxes 180 degrees and refitted. Nice quiet wipers now :)
Took longer to get the trims back on than it did to sort the wipers!

Replace front prop
Replaced brake servo
Tie raped cables under dash
Welded rear axle trailing bracket
Welded rear shock mount
Welded rear crossmember
Wired low brake pad warning light

Not far off ready for the Peak District.
 
Over the last week. Took out me transfer box and gear box.

Found a replacement gear box with very little wear on the output splines, changed the output oil seal. And now ready to stick it back in.

Looking forward to driving her again! Being in the work van is a pain in the bottom!
 
Quite a productive few hours on Saturday! Fitted new battery to replace one that has died in the cold, fixed heated seat wiring, fixed exhaust rattle (front and mid sections weren't even close to being coupled together, so re-aligned and re-tightened clamp), replaced the rusty wing top vent screws with s/s ones, and re-fitted radio aerial cable that had come out back of stereo (had to take out Raptor dash to access it).
Also fitted some Xmas presents - Raptor glovebox, Climair wind deflectors and rear recovery point.
 
Made a start on curing the wayward rear-wheel steering. Took the trailing arm off one side and found a large amount of play in the the bush at the chassis end. Got some new bushes waiting to be fitted, but need to get hold of a press or other means of taking the old ones out...
