Cut out some rot from the rear cross member and welded in a shiny new section. Laughed at the "patches" I welded on for the MOT this time last year. It's fair to say the cross member is on it's way out - whether this is the last year I can get it through the MOT remains to be seen...

Sounds ominous ... did mine last year as it was like apple crumble! ... When you do have to get a new one I can highly recommend MibComponents in Warwick for a rear 1/4 chassis ... hand made and fit perfectly. No I'm not on commission ... hope you get it through this year first though

Cheers for that - yeah, I've heard good things about MIB. I considered taking it to them last year... and this year... maybe next year? I'm confident it'll get through this time - there was only one bad bit, right in the middle. Sprayed the bolts holding fuel tank on with WD40 in readyness for removal next week.

I bloody cursed my 90 today - when I returned to the car park it wouldn't start. Battery?
A bloke in a HiLux wouldn't let me jump start it off his wagon as he was in a hurry (bless him). So I called Mr RAC who arrived in less than 10 minutes!!!
Straight away he reached into the engine compartment. tweaked the exciter wire to the starter motor and then it started straight away. After warning me that it'd probably do this again "in about 6 months time", he departed within about 3 minutes of arriving. Job done!
For my very first Landy breakdown, it was quickly fixed, free (as in no need for a new battery e.g) and painless. I also learned a trick of the trade. Not bad, eh?

Kinda closing the door after the cuddy has bolted, but.
As in any electric type fault, you should always give everything a wiggle just on the off-chance. Plugs and connectors gets dirty, wires and relays come loose etc. Especially if everything had been ok up until fault showed up.

This I now understand
I had checked battery connections and fuses etc but the wiring to the starter was alien territory until Mr RAC pointed it out to me with a torch and long metal poking thing. Useful knowledge for the future I thought.
Not helped by my being slightly disabled too. I'd reverse parked the Landy up to a big hedge so couldn't access my tools even if I'd known what to do with them
