Well... what was the outcome Tim?

Just the same this morning unfortunately.

The pipe looked as though it could do with changing, so glad I did it.

Next, it's either glow plugs or sedimenter.

It seems to be running fine once it's started, so not sure it's a fuel problem but I need to do the sedimenter anyway, so that's probably next.

That's a bastid! Have ye checked the earth straps from battery to chassis and starter? Might just be manky and need a good cleanin'. When was the oil last changed and was it the right type? Is the battery in good nick? Ye might want to check the alternator belt to see if it's slipping or worn as this can play a little havoc aswell;)

It turns over fine, and will do for ages, no problem there. It just takes 20 secs or so to catch, and then the world behind disappears in a big cloud of white smoke.
If it's been run in the last 2-3 hours it starts instantly.

Not sure exactly how long it has to stand, but shopping etc is fine, but overnight or a day at work and it takes a while to start.

It's just like a petrol engine with a damp distributor.

I also need to check all the oil levels, but my drive is quite steep so I have to remember to park it somewhere flat and wait til it settles.
AFAIK the oil should be good. It was regularly serviced and should have been the proper stuff etc.
Then it sat in a garage for 2-3 years barely used (though I think still serviced) then I got it.
It was fine til I put Bio in it though - this can't just be a coincidence.

try it on normal deezel (I just stole this idea off Sirus) (i had no idea that Si's a tit :D)

I think it may end up with deisel in it when we go to wales - unless there's a bio station down there near the route.

I'll have already done 150+ miles before we set off as Palmer's isn't open late enough on the friday or early enough on the saturday for me to fill up.

Ah'm wonderin' if it's anything to do with the timing or leakin' injector. Mines is kinda the same... even more so with using svo. Might be an idea to check them out;)

if this mota started fine before it was filled for the very 1st time with bio and now dont surely 1st thing to do is use up the bio and fill up with normal deezel?

whilst on bio have u tried turning ignition on and off a few times for glow lite before you start it?

Yep - made no difference. But then isn't it temp controlled and so maybe if 2 or 3 plugs are working it will just turn off because those are hot - and so only start on 2 or 3 cylinders.......which actually sounds about right.

How long do you expect glow plugs last? It's a '96 with only 35000 miles, and I can't see any sign in the history of it having new plugs fitted.

feck the bio off and fill with normal fuel and i bet ya it starts like it used to unless uv fecked summat using crap bio

I used to get a fair bit a white smoke when running me disco on SVO. Stick a load a diesel in it next time to see if theres any difference.

You shouldnt need glowplugs on a 200tdi unless it super cold outside....I know someone who aint even connected his up yet.
