Ahh, he got me on a bite! 8 axles, 12 wheels.
He still won't tell me what kind of drive it is, but looking on the website, it says its a 8x4. I haven't got a clue what this means, and can't figure it out.

Its a Hino 700 series if anyone knows.
 
Hino are very similar in design to mercs but produced very cheaply.Quite reliable but very thirsty.From the far east somewhere. Has twelve wheels but is called 8 wheelers(or some times 8 leggers) cos there 8 wheel drive, with either 4 or two wheel steering depening on if they have a total of 12 or ten wheels. there are also 6 and 4 wheeler tippers getting progresively smaller, with the smaller ones being more use on sites with confined sapce or just for shifting smaller quants of material.
 
So it's an 8 wheeler (4 axles) then (even though it's got 12 tyres, it's still called an 8 wheeler).
 
So all axles are driven? I'm gonna kill the driver, making me look like a cnut...

I do fine on my own in that respect!

So I suspect it should be OK at getting itself up the hill... (quite dissappointed now)

Y in the US do they always refer to 18 wheelers - always bigger n better - so they think
 
I'm guessing the 18 wheelers are the huuge articulated things. Some of their cabs have 8 wheels (3 axles, 2 wheels on front two, four on the back axle) alone without having to get onto the trailer!
 
Yeahbut - still only the rear axles r driven aren't they? Which make it 8 wheel drive so as its called an 8 wheeler.... My head hurts - going back to bed.......

You can't call yourself a lorry driver ulness you've driven one of these.

Twin steering front axles but no power assistance - just a 4ft diameter steering wheel (stand up and heave when manouvering at low speed).
Drum brakes (no air assistance) - jump up and down on the brake pedal with both feet when descending a hill and pray that they don't fade out.
8 speed crash gearbox with only 80hp - learn how to change gear properly and regularly!
