I am about £5000 into mine, but what the heck it's worth it when she get the looks like she did when I was waiting to get in Morrisons today. Guy couldn't see me but I was quite proud to see him giving the approving glances and pointing things out to the wife. Maybe we got another sucker to join the fold in the future:D

Holy 2.25ton cow!!!
I'm not going to count any of the repairs and let alone prices... I would cry.. I could have bought some beautiful bass guitars for this money..
Your list does show that you really do like your bus even though you doth protest!! ;)
No, it shows I'm too poor to afford a decent 4 x 4:(
I forgot to add the alternator failure that happened just as we were leaving for Bordeaux Airport to catch a flight. Lucky it happened at home and we were able to take the Transit.

I do believe it is a decent 4x4 and after all they are not young cars. If you were constantly changing the same parts I'd agree and we are slowly rebuilding them;)

Sorry but as far as I'm concerned it's a basically good design spoilt by poor quality. I have had other cars with much higher mileages that have not needed anything doing to them apart from routing servicing and normal wear and tear parts like exhausts.
The cheapo solution of a VCU instead of a diff lock, the use of the ABS instead of an LSD are 2 examples.

The more unnecessary gadgetry they bolt on causes issues, modern RRs prove this. They were supposed to be a HD luxury utility vehicle now nothing more than a brand.
25 years it’s the oldest LR I’ve had and the best. The other younger two fizzled away long ago.

Unfortunately I agree, the last real offroading range was the classic.. The '38 is very capable but borders on the mostly road going idea... The more technology the less quality as they have to hit their niché prices and keep in with the competition. Even worse nowadays...
@tomcat59alan EAS block cleaner? :eek:

face-palm-emoticon-vector-12786472.jpg got you, the parts cleaner.
The heater popped.. Tripped a fuse.

Iv probably spent like 3000 on mine over the years and with this isolation time off work and the work I’m doing underneath the car probably another 1500 just to keep out of the enemy’s way all she says is you think more of that bloody car than me

Dug out the old steering wheel because it is in vogue to play racing games thanks to Corona... I forgot how much time you can lose pretending to be Richard Burns or Jenson Button.

OK...you bathed in an ultrasonic bath...what about the EAS block Alan? You didn't go for the yellow duck instead did you?
Hope you and the boss are keeping safe and well in Wirral-World.
Kind regards,
Mike.

The P38 is far superior over a Classic i'd know have had both in many ways apart from offroad ability..

The VCU is a far better solution to Diff lock, the people that complained about them didn't understand how they work, and most novice offroaders didn't when know they had them which effectively gave 1 wheel drive, with a VCU it is always looking after all 4 wheels

The VCU is constantly sensing a "really" rather than "quite" difference in road grip and offorad grip, coupled with 4 wheel traction control on the Latter P38 you get an offroad combo that is fairly unbeatable.

As for them being poor quality i'd agree, however even Landcruisers have their faults ;0
