After a long and tiring day I've just stuck a litre of EP90 in what ever hole this is in the side of my transfer box

I've got the best part of 500 miles to do in it tomorrow towing a car transporter and I'm leaving at 04:00 ish, so how long before it pukes its guts on the motorway? :(
Answers on a postcard please....

That's just a blanking bolt, that hole is usually occupied by a temperature sender, you've probably over filled the oil level.

The oil level should be filled here.
