After NOT wanting a Freelander for many years I now own a TD4 - couldn't say no really as the guy has been a customer for 3 years with it, he mentioned last year that he wanted to upgrade at some time this year and would I be interested in buying - so I made a stupidly low offer....................and he held me to it !!

Hopefully you will like it then. If not make sure you sell it on here I am looking for another one...or two

Technically the car cannot be used here - been in Portugal for a lot longer than the 6 months that is allowed - its on UK plates and there is no way it can be put on PT plates. So its either send it back to UK for sale or break it. Pity either way as its only got 81k on the clock with full history. Thought about using it myself but cannot get insurance cover for it (tried all the known insurers for quotes).

Well if I had a farm or some land in Portugal I would snap it up as an off roader :) couldnt you sell it for this purpose?

Bom dia, ;)

I wouldn't advise you to modifying it to LH Drive or getting it on PT plates, to much trouble and not money wise.
easy way out is selling it to some LR breakers/mecanics, there are some good ones "Soluções Freelander" in Aveiro and "Land Rovers do Teles" near Porto, I've heard of a good one in Coimbra but can't remember it's name.

on the other hand you could get a LH drive Td4 with a bust engine or IRD and swap the parts from yours.

Hmmm, easy to put UK car on Spanish plates (in Spain) why so difficult in Portugal. They are in the EU after all.....

Portugal has its own ideas on registering EU vehicles - bleed the owners dry!! Last vehicle I sent for matriculation (put on PT plates) was a Disco 300 for a customer, cost 500€ for the paperwork, 110€ for certificate of authenticity, 85€ for MOT inspection, then a trip to Customs for them to decide how much import duty to pay - 15,200€ then to be told that each year the road tax would cost 525€ - so needless to say customer decided not to pay those figures and ended up with me breaking the car for him.
So no I will not be putting it on PT plates anytime soon.

I have my own workshop here, so will be breaking it myself and using the usual PT websites to sell the parts - a lot of it has already been sold by word of mouth + previous owner bought a PT registered car to replace it and he has bought back all the interior and rear window mechanism as his one has a few issues !!

ok, will you be asking for UK breaker prices or PT ripp-off amounts?
if first I might be interested in some usually non-sell parts if they go for cheap

UK prices most items. Normally use ebay buy it now prices as a guide or split the difference between OLX and ebay - fair to everybody then.
