Bit of a bitsa, bits of this and that. Long gearbox clutch housing is correct for 300 gearbox and it is Defender type.. The engine however is a Disco unit. Rad is rubbish no fins. Something looks odd at the rear but I am not familiar tdci chassis.

I looked at the pics and thought how it is very like a tdci chassis, then read the description. I was not surprised to read it is a tdci chassis, nothing odd about the rear end. Complete with the plastic fuel tank.

I've just got a 1985 110 with a disco 300 tdi like that in it, the gearbox is an lt77 with rev near first which I think is original. I'll post a few pics when I get time as the tub is something I've never seen before with missing bulkhead and modified floor pan......thinking maybe a utilities wagon of some sort but more of that later.
The chassis I've got is probably beyond repair ( and I don't say that lightly cos I'll have a go at most things) hence looking at this one. I could get a galvanised one for about the same money but the way I look at is I get a shed load of spares into the bargain.
Would there be any issues using that chassis as opposed to a proper tdi one?
 
A few things, what's going on at the front round the spring mounts? The chassis looks very small section is that right?
Maybe it's just camera angle but the rear prop looks like it's not inline with the chassis, that doesn't sound healthy to me and the front prop also looks quite a sharp angle down!
I don't know the terminology but the rear suspension looks like a double spring, ie spring inside a spring, what's going on there?

110 does have inner helper spring option,and its had td5/tdci engine mounts cut out and 300 put in
 
Hmm starting to think I should go with a proper chassis for the year and modify the engine mounts. I want it to qualify for tax/mot exemption in a few years and don't want to come unstuck later.
I'm asking Richards and Terraintech if they can do a 300 tdi mount and lt77 crossmember on an early chassis....guessing they can and that would keep it pretty much stock except for engine brackets.
Not interested in having any ID with it but I know what you mean I don't want to buy the chassis off somebody's pride and joy that some tow rag nicked.

The props will look like that till there's all the weight back on it.....you should have seen my series 3 ex mil I thought it was going to clank as it went down the road, needn't have worried though the noise from the engine drowns out everything else:D
 
The chassis in the ad is the heavy duty spec, with the welded plates along the chassis rails.

The genuine GKN chassis (via Marsland) have all the holes to either mount the transmission in the early 4-cyl/LT77 position or the V8/300Tdi/Td5 position. For the former you use the bolt-on mounts, for the latter you can use the 300Tdi crossmember and the mounts are part of that. So you just need to get the right engine mounts when you order. I’m not sure if the aftermarket chassis also have this flexibility.

The holes for the gearbox crossmembers and mounts are in the same place on all the chassis, you just bolt on whatever crossmember matches your gearbox.
It's the engine mounts that need to match your engine and gearbox combination.
I personally think that the 300tdi with the short bellhousing LT77 puts the engine in the best place, i.e. lower down and further back, but if you use the long bellhousing as in the pictures above, it puts the engine in the standard 300tdi position and you can use standard pipes etc.
