I bought a series 2a swb landy about 18mths ago. She has a V8 and had a series 3 gearbox fitted. Sadly, about 6 mths after purchase, the gearbox destroyed itself and I had a new one fitted. I know nothing about mechanics and put my trust in the local 4x4 garage. They fitted another gearbox, which seems to be working fine, but I really think I could get something that performs better???
Any ideas???
I've been told I can't fit a range rover auto box, surely there is something out there that would fit????

Hi there, in short there is a heap of stuff on this available via a simple Google search plus on this forum as well.

Series box simplest but yes they were designed to mate to a simple1940s engine with low power outputs. Still, a mild v8 will apparently be ok, as long as it's driven with care.

You can put any other box designed for v8 landies behind it but your gearstick will be in odd places plus other problems that others on here know more about than me.

Post up some photos of your landy so we can have a look under the bonnet etc...:D

Nah its from a 110 but can get hold of the bell housing from the local guy who has a huge stash of V8 bits and I'll be building it up from scratch so a new shorter input shaft will be used too

Hang on to it then. They are very easy too rebuild and very strong, I comped and trialled one for two years not a spot of bother.

Plan was to keep it as a spare for when I write off the R380 or decide to sell the 380 as I like the idea of a limited slip and vacuum central diff

Pretty sure it is LSD looking at the pics, will know for sure when I strip it anyhow

Transporting all my junk over to mine on friday now so it and the series can sit with the sankey in the alleyway

Hi guys
Thank you for the replies! I'm so sorry I haven't got back to anyone. . . this is the first forum I've ever joined and didn't realise anyone had replied!
I will have a proper look through and get more involved!!!
