So I am going to get my chassis done I figured it might be worth taking some other bits up as well.

However I am not sure what other things so was hoping for some suggestions...

Wheel arch liners, body capings, bulkhead... Depends on how far stripped down your landy is.

Why galvanize a half rusted out chassis, it still will rust.

Are the wheel arch liners steel on newer Defenders? I could swear they are aluminium on my Ninety: they aren't painted or anything and they don't rust. Though I should add that I don't have any liners in the rear mudguards.

Not sure what age yours is but mine has rusty galvanised lol

£160 up to 200kg. I'd imagine the chassis is close to that. Thats with South West Galvanisers.

Quite right, however so will a brand new galv one. Its a matter of time though.
Firstly It'll be acid dipped so will clean the inside up to a degree, then the Galv dipping will coat the inside whereas other techniques of rust prevention will not so well and finally the cost is quite reasonable.

All in all, I reckon if i were to not galvanise it, i'd probably have a couple years of not worrying about it whereas by getting it galvanised, i will have confidence in the chassis for an even longer period of time.

Plus, who doesn't like the idea of a nice shiny chassis!

acid dip will no remove any scale on the inside of the tube chassis and any dirt or scale that is trapped will be the problem.

On a new chassis the acid dip removes the oil from the steel, and there will not be dirt and debris in the tube

Hence why i said to a degree. Acid will remove most solids that contain oxygen, then the hot dip will remove any substance that have dissolved oxygen in, simultaneously sealing with the galv coat, thus there is a very very small amount of oxygen left available the rusting process to use. And because its sealed, none can get in. So all in all, rusting will occur far more passive rate and therefore increasing the longevity of the chassis.
I fully understand that the longevity of my chassis will not match that of a new one, however I am quite content with my belief that the chassis will survive for a significantly increased duration than is i didn't get it galvinised.
