Urgent help required please???

Freelander 1800 cc petrol 2001 with a disconcerning click after reversing out of my drive and pulling forward. Click appears to come from the rear offside.

Any ideas please? Many thanks 07811 401801
 
Could be the brake pads. There is a design fault with the hippos brake pads/setup.

The front ones lock in position sometimes after braking on reversing. Then when you pull forward or depress the brake slightly you get a clicking sound.
This is just a single click, not a repeating sound
 
did I see yu say "design fault" - is this additional to the window mechanism fault - or is it just a querk?;);)

Single click is correct. Is there a DIY fix- it?

Its quite a concerning noise but sadly there is no cure for this, pads are binding, they can do it from new regardless of how much copper grease you use.

piston/caliper/pad setup causes the outer pad to wear quicker than the inner one.

Apparently other Rover cars do this too, not sure if aftermarket upgrade setups do the same??? Green EBC etc

I wonder if you have a moment?
This morning I took my Freelander to the local registered dealer, they kindly replaced the rear diff mounting for me, but failed to find the clicking noise!
You have previously mentioned cracked chassis would you be able to give me an idea to where the possible weak points might be? At the moment I will have to re- book for an x- ray machine at £100.00 per hour. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers JON

You have previously advised brake shoes but they say this isn'nt the case on this one The mad hat man say's cracked chassis would you add any thoughts to this as at this moment I will have to re- book for an x- ray machine at £100.00 per hour. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers JON

yu dont need an x-ray - its a rear subframe attachment, i think. The answer is hidden in these posts. Good reading.

the problem i had was not that the chassis was cracked,but that the captive nut that sits inside the chassis was loose,i found this out by looking underneath (where the rear subframebolts to the chassis)while someone "rocked'' the freelander using dipping motion ov the clutch(engine running),land rover wanted ''2 GRAND'' to fix it:eek: ,done it myself in aprox 2 hours:cool:

I never mentioned brake shoes, but brake pads. Pads on the front and shoes on the rear, not unless you got Gallaway rear discs.


As far as I aware, there is only one case of a cracked chassis mentioned on the Freelander section of LANDYZONE. So wouldnt jump to conclusions!

someone else mentioned that they fix it by cutting open the floor and welding a patch inside the chassis. I aint saying itIS that - just its a possibility - chassis/sub-frame attachment point.

Dont worry I still stand by my words.

You'll seen see an influx of peeps with snapped window cables.... another quality component of the hippo:rolleyes:
 
pull the ashtray out of the center concel and put the hand break on and of check you have even ish travel and the linkedge is resonably straight on the two cables you can see if not totaly strip the brake on that side shoes out etc you will probably find the cable linkedge to the shoe is sized causing the shoe to stick to the drum ,this was the prob on mine
